Nine individuals tragically lost their lives in a devastating head-on collision between a van and a truck in the late hours of Sunday night in Jhalawar, Rajasthan, as confirmed by local authorities. The incident occurred on the busy Bhopal-Jhalawar highway, specifically near the Aklera area, around 3 am on Sunday, when a van carrying ten passengers collided with a speeding truck travelling in the opposite direction on NH-52.
Sandeep Vishnoi, the Station House Officer (SHO) at Aklera police station, revealed that the van was transporting passengers back to Jhalawar from a wedding in Madhya Pradesh when the tragic accident took place. Following the collision, locals and police teams rushed to the scene and promptly transported the injured individuals to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention. Regrettably, upon arrival at the medical facility, nine of the passengers were pronounced deceased by attending doctors, while one critically injured individual was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit for further treatment.
The deceased victims have been identified as Hemraj Bagri (33), Ravishankar Bagri (25), Ashok Kumar (24), Deepak Bagri (24), Sonu Bagri (22), Rohit Jagadish (22), Ramkrishna Premchand (20), Saraula Premchand (20), and Rohit Bagri (16). Their bodies have been sent for post-mortem examinations to determine the exact cause of death.
In response to the tragic incident, SHO Vishnoi confirmed that the truck involved in the collision has been seized by authorities, and the driver has been swiftly apprehended in a nearby village. The truck driver has been charged under sections 279 (for rash driving endangering human life) and 304A (for death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code, as per police reports.
As the investigation into the fatal collision continues, authorities are working diligently to gather more information about the circumstances leading to this tragic event.
