In a tragic incident that occurred on Saturday evening in San Bernardino County, a motorcyclist lost his life while six van occupants sustained injuries following a violent collision. The collision took place around 6:10 p.m. at the intersection of State Highway 18 and Quinnault Road in Apple Valley, as reported by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
Upon arrival at the scene, deputies from the Apple Valley sheriff’s station found that a motorcycle had collided with a van in the intersection, resulting in the tragic outcome. The motorcyclist, identified as 39-year-old Apple Valley resident Matthew Hicks, was pronounced dead at a local hospital after being transported there post-collision.
The collision occurred when a white Toyota Sienna travelling northbound on Quinnault Road attempted to make a left turn onto State Highway 18, and the motorcyclist collided with the van during this maneuver. Following the incident, all six occupants of the van were also transported to local hospitals for treatment, with one juvenile being airlifted to a local trauma center for further care.
As a result of the crash, State Highway 18 had to be closed for several hours between Central Road and Navajo Road to allow deputies to process the scene and gather witness statements. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Major Accident Investigation Team is currently conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the collision.
