Arrest Made in Connection with Red Fort Cab Driver Murder
Authorities in New Delhi have apprehended the main suspect in the murder of a cab driver near the iconic Red Fort. The suspect, identified as Firoz, has a history of violent crimes including murder and robbery, according to police officials.
Arrest and Exchange of Fire
The breakthrough in the case came after a tip-off led police to Firoz’s location. When confronted by a police team, the suspect opened fire, prompting officers to retaliate. Firoz sustained injuries to his left leg during the exchange and was subsequently taken to Aruna Asaf Ali Hospital for treatment.
Details of the Incident
The victim, 36-year-old cab driver Mohammad Sakib, was fatally shot following an altercation that started when his vehicle collided with an e-rickshaw at Chatta railway crossing. After the collision, a confrontation ensued, during which Sakib was attacked and robbed of his mobile phone. One of the assailants shot him before fleeing the scene.
Previous Arrests and Criminal History
Authorities revealed that Firoz had been arrested in connection with ten criminal cases, including three murders. He and his associate, Firoz alias Fauzi, were implicated in the robbery and murder of Delhi Police constable Shivraj Tomar in 2014. Fauzi met his demise in a police encounter.
