In a disturbing turn of events, a body discovered in an East Bay estuary last autumn has now been confirmed to be that of 74-year-old Que Thi Tran, a San Pablo resident. The San Pablo Police Department announced on Tuesday that a DNA profile of the deceased matched that of Tran, shedding light on a tragic case that has shocked the community.
Authorities have pointed the finger at Tran’s son-in-law, 41-year-old Phuc Hong Vo, who hails from San Pablo, as the prime suspect in her murder. Vo has also been charged with the murder of his wife, 40-year-old Tho Ngoc Ly. Despite the charges, Ly’s body remains missing, adding another layer of mystery to the case.
The discovery of Tran’s body in Alameda last year prompted a search of the estuary by law enforcement officials on Tuesday. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities stating that the whereabouts of Tho Ly’s remains have yet to be confirmed. The lack of closure for the family and the community has left many questions unanswered.
The disappearance of Tran and Ly was first reported on September 13, prompting a plea from the police for public assistance in locating the missing women. A press release issued in December revealed that the mother and daughter had allegedly travelled to Southern California following a family dispute, but their whereabouts were unknown.
The last known sighting of the pair was at the Sutter Avenue residence they shared with Vo, who later caught the attention of detectives when he was observed driving his wife’s missing vehicle. The vehicle was eventually located in Oakland on December 5, leading to Vo’s arrest on February 29.
As the investigation continues to unfold, the San Pablo Police Department urges anyone with information related to the case to come forward and contact the SPPD Investigations Division at 510-215-3150. This story is developing, and updates will be provided as new details emerge..
