A 24-year-old man from Haryana, Chirag Antil, met a tragic end in Vancouver, Canada, where he had gone to pursue higher education. Chirag, who hailed from Sector 12 of Sonipat town, was shot dead in his car on Friday night, leaving his family devastated.
Chirag had left for Canada in September 2022 to pursue an MBA and had subsequently found employment in the country after completing his studies. His elder brother, Ronit, recounted how he had spoken to Chirag just minutes before his untimely death. “Chirag sounded cheerful when we spoke on Friday,” Ronit said. Chirag had stepped out after dinner and tragically met his demise in a fatal gunfire incident by unknown perpetrators.
The Antil family received a message from Chirag’s friends followed by an email from Canadian police confirming his death. Despite their grief, they expressed frustration over the lack of information provided by the Vancouver police. They claimed that their attempts to seek clarity were met with vague responses about ongoing investigations.
The Vancouver Police Department reported that officers were called to the scene around 11 pm on April 12 after residents heard gunshots. Chirag Antil was found dead inside a vehicle in the area. As of now, no arrests have been made, and the investigation is still ongoing. The incident occurred within a block of the route for Saturday’s Vaisakhi parade and festival.
In their time of mourning, the grieving family has reached out to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar for assistance. They have appealed for help in bringing Chirag’s body back to India and ensuring that his killers are apprehended and brought to justice.
The tragic loss of a promising young individual like Chirag Antil has left his family and community in shock. As they await answers and justice, they hope for swift action from both Indian and Canadian authorities to provide closure and bring those responsible for Chirag’s senseless death to account..
