A courageous shopper who found himself in the midst of the harrowing Bondi stabbing rampage recently shared his gripping account of how he assisted in directing police Inspector Amy Scott to confront and ultimately shoot the knife-wielding assailant inside the Westfield shopping center.
Ryan Bramble, recounting his experience to Today, revealed that he and his friends were inside the Zara store when they were alerted by screams echoing through the mall. As they ventured outside, they were met with a chaotic scene of people fleeing in all directions.
Bramble described how he and his companions encountered the lone figure of the attacker, later identified as Joel Cauchi, who brandished a menacing “Rambo knife” in his hand, reminiscent of the iconic action movie character.
Upon the arrival of Inspector Scott, the first officer on the scene, Bramble provided her with crucial information about Cauchi’s appearance and movements. Together with other shoppers, they trailed the suspect through the shopping center until they reached a critical juncture where Scott confronted Cauchi, ordering him to halt.
Despite repeated warnings to drop the weapon, Cauchi refused to comply and charged towards the female officer and bystanders, prompting Scott to take decisive action. Bramble vividly recalled the heart-stopping moment when Scott fired three fatal shots at the assailant, neutralizing the threat.
Following the confrontation, Scott administered CPR to Cauchi in a bid to save his life, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries. Bramble commended Scott for her unwavering professionalism and praised her exceptional judgement and marksmanship in the face of imminent danger.
