SAGINAW, MI — The Brew Ha-Ha! scheduled to take place at downtown Saginaw’s Dow Event Center Friday, Jan. 14, and Saturday, Jan. 15, will go on despite a staffing shortage, but event organizers are still seeking volunteers.

The event was at risk of being canceled after a COVID-19 outbreak among a group of would-be volunteers led to a last-minute staffing shortage. Dow Event Center officials reached out to area nonprofits seeking volunteers with a goal of finding 25 people to work Friday and 25 people to work Saturday, said Marketing Manager Suzanne Kart. Participating nonprofit organizations will receive $65 per volunteer per day.

“We put out the message with a number of community groups and everybody’s been really great,” Kart said Friday morning. “It’s such a great event, and we’ve been so fortunate to have our community groups help us in our time of need.”

Event organizers are still accepting volunteers for Friday and Saturday. Kart said individuals who are not affiliated with a nonprofit may also volunteer and $65 will be donated to a nonprofit of their choice. Volunteers must be at least 21 years old.

“It’s a tough time for everybody so were very grateful we were able to get as much help from our community volunteers as we have gotten,” she said.

Kart said this weekend’s Brew Ha-Ha! will feature five comedians each night and 40 breweries offering 160 styles of beer, cider and mead. Face masks are encouraged.
