Syracuse, N.Y. – The tragic incident that claimed the lives of two dedicated law enforcement officers in Salina on Sunday night has left the community in mourning. The fallen heroes have been identified as Syracuse Police Officer Michael Jensen, aged 29, from Rome, New York, and Onondaga County Sheriff’s Deputy Michael Hoosock, aged 37, from Clay, New York.
Officer Michael Jensen
Officer Jensen, a graduate of the Syracuse Police Academy in 2022, had served on the force for two years. He was a valued member of the Patrol Division of the Third Platoon and was recognised for his outstanding contribution with the Officer of the Month Award in December 2023. Police Chief Joseph Cecile shared that Officer Jensen is survived by his grieving parents and sister.
Deputy Michael Hoosock
Deputy Hoosock, who had been with the Sheriff’s Office since 2007, had a distinguished career path. He began as an EMT with Rural Metro (now AMR) and also volunteered as a firefighter at Moyer’s Corners Fire Department. Sheriff Toby Shelley revealed that Deputy Hoosock held positions as a Watch Commander and Bomb Squad Commander before being promoted to Lieutenant in June 2023. His bravery was recognised with the Medal of Valor in 2020 for his heroic actions during an incident at the Regional Transportation Center in Syracuse in 2011. Deputy Hoosock is survived by his wife and three children.
