In a tragic turn of events, a shooting incident in the Rosemont community of Orlando, Florida, has left one person dead and several others injured. The Orlando Police Department swiftly responded to the scene on Iron Wedge Drive and South Lake Orlando following the disturbing events that unfolded around 11 p.m. on Wednesday night.
The suspect behind this heinous crime has been identified as Shamika Rose Stubbs-Peterson, who has since been arrested and charged with a string of serious offences including burglary of an occupied conveyance with battery, false reports to law enforcement during a capital felony investigation, false information to law enforcement during an investigation, and battery in connection to the incident that took place on February 28.
The fateful night saw the police arriving at the 3300 block of Ironwedge Drive to find seven victims who had sustained gunshot wounds. Tragically, 21-year-old Jerry Dawn Williams III was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other victims were rushed to the hospital in stable condition, with hopes for their recovery.
Further investigations led to the apprehension of Wayne Anthony Grant Jr., who was charged with aggravated battery with a firearm. The Orlando Police Department disclosed that the altercation leading to the shooting began earlier that day at 3 p.m. in the same location, sparked by a dispute over a vehicle that had not been returned as agreed upon.
The unfolding of events prior to the shooting shed light on the troubling criminal history of Stubbs-Peterson, including an unrelated incident involving her son in Seminole County. On February 26, her son, Markeis D’Aundre Stubbs, was involved in a high-speed chase on Interstate 4, resulting in a crash into a parked semi-truck. The subsequent arrest of Stubbs uncovered a firearm, ammunition, and drugs in the vehicle.
Stubbs was charged with a series of offences including resisting officers without violence, driving without a valid license, hit-and-run involving injury, aggravated fleeing from police with injury or damage, and reckless driving. During this incident, Stubbs-Peterson arrived at the scene and allegedly made verbal threats towards law enforcement officers.
The troubling history of Stubbs-Peterson continues to unravel, with previous charges including animal cruelty, driving with a suspended license, interfering with school administration functions, drug possession, theft, and misuse of 911, as per Orange County court records.
As the investigation into this harrowing incident continues, the community remains in shock and mourning over the loss of life and the impact of violence in their midst. The authorities are working tirelessly to bring justice to the victims and ensure the safety of the residents in the area..
