A death investigation was initiated in Goldsboro, North Carolina, on Sunday, marking the third such investigation since Friday afternoon. The latest incident involved the discovery of a deceased woman in a tent behind a shopping center, according to the Goldsboro Police Department.
The string of investigations began late Friday afternoon when a 40-year-old man was found in the woods near the intersection of Interstate-795 North and W. Ash Street. Identified as Richard Scott Lane of Goldsboro, the man’s death sparked the first investigation.
The following morning, another 40-year-old man, Billy Wayne Saunders of Goldsboro, died at the Irish Inn motel on Sunburst Drive. Police were called for a welfare check, leading to the second death investigation within a span of less than a day.
On Sunday, the discovery of a deceased woman behind a shopping area between Royall Avenue and U.S. 70/U.S. 13 prompted the latest investigation. The woman was found in the woods behind the Pinewood Square Shopping Center, which houses popular establishments such as Walmart, Ollie’s Bargain Outlet, Applebee’s, and Bojangles.
The woman, identified as Kirsten Shawnell Alves, 34, of Goldsboro, was found in a tent by a caller who notified the authorities. With the assistance of Wayne County Probation/Parole Officers, the woman was identified.
Police stated that, similar to the previous incidents, there were no signs of foul play in Alves’ death. The investigation into the cause and manner of her death is ongoing, as authorities work to gather more information.
The recent spate of deaths in Goldsboro has raised concerns within the community, prompting residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
