Intensified Police Efforts to Track Down Suspect in KLIA 1 Shooting Incident
In a bid to apprehend the suspect involved in a shooting incident at Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 1 (KLIA 1), police in George Town are ramping up their efforts and intensifying their search as they believe the suspect may have fled to the northern region.
The newly appointed deputy state police chief, Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin, has assured the public that the police force is fully committed to capturing the suspect. “I will explore all avenues to enhance our surveillance, roadblocks, and checks,” he stated during a hand-over ceremony at the state police headquarters on Monday (April 15).
The Shooting Incident
On the morning of Sunday, April 14, a shocking incident unfolded at the arrival hall of KLIA 1. The suspect, identified as 38-year-old Hafizul Harawi, allegedly targeted his wife, Farah Md Isa, who is popularly known as Farah Cie and is the owner of a travel agency. Farah was awaiting the return of her clients from umrah when Hafizul, armed with a firearm, attempted to take her life.
Witnesses reported that Hafizul set off firecrackers before opening fire at close range, aiming at Farah. Fortunately, her bodyguard intervened and managed to shield her, although he sustained a gunshot wound to the stomach. Hafizul quickly fled the scene and made his escape to his car, which was parked at Block C of the airport car park.
Legal Ramifications
The incident has been classified as an attempted murder under section 307 of the Penal Code and section 8 of the Arms Act 1960. The police are leaving no stone unturned in their investigation to bring the perpetrator to justice and ensure the safety of the public.
Residents and visitors are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities as the search for Hafizul Harawi continues.
