Authorities have disclosed the identity of a man who was discovered fatally shot outside his tow truck late on Saturday evening in southwest Birmingham. The victim has been identified as Christopher Deandre Coleman, a 41-year-old resident of Birmingham and the owner of Coleman’s Towing. Coleman, described as a family man, was a father and a grandfather, leaving behind loved ones who are now mourning his tragic death.
The incident unfolded when West Precinct officers responded to a call at 11:10 p.m. on Saturday, reporting a tow truck parked on the premises of a vacant house on the 1700 block of Maple Avenue S.W. Upon arrival, officers found the tow truck still running and discovered Coleman’s lifeless body on the ground outside the vehicle.
Sergeant LaQuitta Wade revealed that a resident in the neighbourhood had indeed heard gunshots but had opted not to investigate further. This unfortunate event marks the 40th homicide in Birmingham, following closely on the heels of two other recent tragedies in the city.
Just days before Coleman’s untimely demise, a 40-year-old woman named Nakita Chantryce “Kita” Davidson was shot and kidnapped by her boyfriend, with her body being discovered the next day. Additionally, a 26-year-old man lost his life in an overnight shooting on Birmingham’s east side on the same weekend. The spate of violent incidents has left the community reeling, with no arrests yet made in connection to any of the cases.
