Oliver Nicholson, a resident of Cool Aid’s Crosstown housing facility at Douglas and Burnside, formerly the Tally Ho Motel, was tragically killed in a fatal stabbing incident that occurred on Tuesday night on Douglas Street near Burnside Road. The victim was identified by a Cool Aid spokesperson following the incident, which took place just before midnight in the 2900 block of Douglas Street, outside Palagio Pizza.
Nicholson’s life had been marred by previous violence, as in April 2022, he was the victim of a brutal attack inside a suite at the housing facility. This attack stemmed from Nicholson’s struggles with methamphetamine addiction and a debt of $190 to his dealer, accrued from purchasing drugs for his girlfriend at the time. A B.C. Supreme Court judgment from October 2023 revealed that Nicholson had been subjected to extortion, unlawful confinement, assault causing bodily harm, and assault with a weapon by individuals involved in the incident.
The details of the attack were harrowing, with Nicholson being confined in a room where he was duct-taped to a chair, beaten, and even branded with a hot coin after his shoulder was set on fire. Despite the traumatic nature of these events, Cool Aid staff were unable to provide further information about Nicholson at the time of the recent stabbing.
Authorities have classified Nicholson’s death as an isolated incident, reassuring the public that there is no ongoing risk to their safety. However, no arrests have been made in connection with the case, prompting the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit to launch an investigation. They have urged anyone with information about the stabbing to come forward and assist in the ongoing inquiry by contacting 250-380-6211.
The location of the incident, Douglas Street near Burnside Road, is a bustling area known for its mix of residential and commercial establishments. The community has been left shocked by the tragic loss of Nicholson, highlighting the need for continued vigilance and support for those affected by such senseless acts of violence..
