A man from Milwaukee has been formally charged with homicide and mutilating a corpse following the discovery of a severed leg, believed to belong to a missing 19-year-old woman, earlier this month. Maxwell Anderson, 33, who had been a person of interest in the disappearance of Sade Robinson and was arrested last week, faced the charges on Friday morning, officials confirmed.
The severed leg was found on April 2, as stated by Milwaukee County Sheriff Denita Ball during a press conference, and has been tentatively identified as belonging to Robinson. Additional human remains were also found at three separate locations by Milwaukee police on April 5 and April 6, including near railroad tracks. However, the identification of these remains is still pending, according to Milwaukee Police Chief Jeffrey Norman.
Norman described the situation as a “horrendous tragedy,” expressing that both he and Ball extended their thoughts and prayers to the Robinson family during this difficult time.
Anderson has been charged by the district attorney’s office with first-degree intentional homicide, mutilating a corpse, and arson of property other than a building, as confirmed by Ball. The investigation into the motive behind these gruesome acts is still ongoing, with officials refraining from disclosing any details at this time.
Milwaukee police had issued a public appeal on April 3 for information on Robinson’s whereabouts, as she had last been seen on April 1 and was considered a “critically missing person.” Anderson was identified as a person of interest just one day after the discovery of the leg and was apprehended following a traffic stop. A search of his residence was conducted, although authorities have not revealed what was found during this search.
Investigators are exploring the possibility that Robinson and Anderson may have crossed paths at Anderson’s workplace, although this has yet to be confirmed. The search for Robinson’s remains is ongoing, with law enforcement authorities assuring that they have no reason to believe anyone else was involved in these crimes.
As the legal proceedings progress, Anderson remains in custody with a bail set at $5 million. Robinson’s mother, Sheena Scarbrough, expressed a sense of closure with the filing of criminal charges, as reported by the NBC affiliate WTMJ of Milwaukee. Family members have vowed to continue searching for their loved one’s remains as they seek closure and justice in this devastating situation..
