Local Man Faces Multiple Charges After Police Encounter in Delmar
A 48-year-old Delmar man found himself in hot water after a run-in with Bethlehem police officers on a fateful Sunday afternoon. The incident took place in the serene neighbourhood of Delmar, where law enforcement had a prior interaction with the man, advising him not to return to a local residence and refrain from driving due to suspicions of intoxication.
Incident Details
Despite the warning, the man was spotted driving his Kia SUV at around 3:34 p.m., turning into the driveway of the very residence he was instructed to avoid. Upon closer inspection, officers noted signs of intoxication, including slurred speech, watery eyes, and the smell of alcohol on his breath. Subsequent field sobriety tests confirmed their suspicions, with the man testing positive for breath alcohol on a pre-screening device.
Legal Consequences
Further investigation revealed that the man did not possess a valid license, and his vehicle lacked proper registration, inspection, and insurance. After being taken to the Guilderland police station, he provided a breath sample that indicated a .11 percent BAC. Consequently, he was charged with aggravated DWI and aggravated unlicensed operation, alongside citations for operating an unregistered vehicle, driving without inspection, and driving without insurance. An appearance ticket for Bethlehem Town Court was issued for his hearing on April 16.
