The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in the picturesque coastal state of Goa, India, has recently made a significant breakthrough in their fight against drug trafficking. A drug syndicate, allegedly masterminded by a Nigerian national known as Stanley and his wife, Usha C, has been dismantled by the authorities. Assets amounting to a staggering Rs 1.06 crore linked to the couple have been frozen as part of the operation, marking a major victory in the battle against narcotics in the region.
According to Amit Ghawate, the Additional Director of NCB Goa, the arrest of Stanley on Wednesday marked a crucial turning point in the investigation. The NCB team, acting on reliable intelligence, made a pivotal breakthrough on February 13, 2024, when they confiscated 7.35 grams of cocaine from a local resident named Raju S in Saligao.
Further investigations revealed that Raju S was merely a small cog in a much larger drug distribution network orchestrated by Stanley and Usha C. The couple, who resided in Candolim, had enlisted the help of local individuals to facilitate the distribution of narcotics to their customers. Subsequently, on February 16, 2024, another field peddler named Michael, who worked as a taxi driver in Candolim, was apprehended by the NCB.
As the investigation unfolded, it became apparent that Stanley had already been arrested by the Telangana Police in a separate Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) case. However, his wife, Usha C, was actively involved in managing the illicit proceeds generated from the drug trafficking operations. On February 21, 2024, Usha C was taken into custody by the NCB as part of their concerted efforts to disrupt the drug network.
In a bid to further dismantle the syndicate, the NCB has identified and frozen illegally acquired properties valued at one crore rupees belonging to the couple. With Stanley’s recent arrest by the NCB in Goa, the investigative process is ongoing, with authorities determined to uncover the full extent of the drug network and bring all perpetrators to justice.
The crackdown on the drug syndicate in Goa serves as a stark reminder of the persistent challenges posed by drug trafficking in the region. The NCB’s relentless pursuit of justice underscores their commitment to safeguarding the community from the scourge of narcotics and upholding the rule of law..
