Deadly Triple Shooting Rocks Downtown Toronto
Tragedy struck early Thursday morning in downtown Toronto as a triple shooting left one man dead and two others injured. The incident occurred near the intersection of Queen Street W. and Portland Street, with police responding to multiple reports of gunfire just after 2:30 a.m.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered three victims. The 30-year-old man, identified as Ibrahim Abdikarim of Toronto, was rushed to the hospital but tragically pronounced dead. The other two victims, a 36-year-old woman and a 33-year-old man, sustained non-life-threatening injuries, according to Det.-Sgt. Trevor Grieve from the homicide and missing persons unit.
Possible Targeted Attack
Grieve indicated that the shooting appeared to be targeted, although the specifics of the motive remain unclear. He mentioned that there is no known connection between the victims and emphasized that it is still early in the investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the incident.
The shooting took place on a sidewalk, with the suspect reportedly fleeing in a dark-coloured, two-door sedan. Police are actively seeking surveillance footage from nearby businesses and appealing to witnesses who may have information regarding the events leading up to the shooting.
Community Concerns
Sahar Delmoradi, a local business owner near the scene of the shooting, expressed her unease about the increasing violence in the area. She highlighted that this was the third shooting she had witnessed in the vicinity within the past five months, raising concerns for the safety of residents and children in the neighbourhood.
“Lots of families live around us, lots of kids walking by every day. I’m a little bit worried,” Delmoradi said, reflecting the apprehension felt by many community members following the tragic incident.
Despite the unsettling events, Grieve reassured residents that there are no immediate safety concerns and urged the public to come forward with any information that could aid in the investigation.
