Montgomery County Police have launched an intensive investigation into two tragic pedestrian collisions that occurred within a span of three days, appealing to the public for any information that could assist in solving these cases. The incidents, involving white Acura TLs, are being treated as hit-and-run accidents, although authorities have clarified that they are not connected.
Assistant Police Chief Marc Yamada dispelled rumours circulating on social media suggesting a link between the two collisions, stating definitively that such claims are unfounded. The police have made significant progress in locating the vehicle involved in the first collision, providing a glimmer of hope in resolving these heart-wrenching cases.
The first fatal collision took place on a Friday night, shortly after 10 p.m., on Randolph Road near Kimblewick Drive. The sequence of events unfolded as a 2023 Honda Odyssey travelling westbound veered off the road, striking a pedestrian. The impact propelled the victim into the path of a second vehicle, a white Acura, which fled the scene. The deceased has been identified as 52-year-old Ronaldo Franzese from Silver Spring.
In the second tragic incident, occurring just after midnight on a Monday, a man on a skateboard was struck by a white Acura TL on Veirs Mill Road. The driver of the vehicle did not stop, leaving the victim behind. The victim in this collision has been identified as 26-year-old Jaques Price, also from Silver Spring.
Police Captain Warren Jensen revealed that the vehicle involved in the second collision may exhibit specific damage, including a missing front bumper cover and potentially a broken headlight assembly. Despite these leads, Jensen emphasized that both investigations were still in their early stages.
When questioned about traffic enforcement measures and the county’s commitment to Vision Zero, a program aimed at eradicating traffic-related fatalities, Jensen acknowledged the challenges faced in the Veirs Mill Road area. He highlighted ongoing efforts to address safety concerns along major corridors such as Georgia Avenue, University Boulevard, and Veirs Mill Road.
Authorities have urged anyone with relevant information about the vehicles or drivers involved in these incidents to contact the collision reconstruction unit or call (240) 773-6620. As the investigations progress, the community’s support and cooperation remain crucial in bringing closure to these devastating cases.
