The Los Angeles Police Department’s Southwest Division officers were on patrol near the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Vermont Avenue when they heard gunshots in the vicinity. Responding swiftly, they arrived at a strip mall parking lot where they discovered Jonathan Orellana-Lozada, a resident of L.A., with a gunshot wound.
Despite the efforts of paramedics from the Los Angeles Fire Department, Orellana-Lozada succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The area was swiftly cordoned off with crime scene tape as police established a perimeter, questioning bystanders and actively searching for any potential suspects.
