Former Nevada congressional candidate Daniel Rodimer appeared in court for the first time on Wednesday morning, facing accusations of the murder of 47-year-old Christopher Tapp in Las Vegas. Rodimer, who ran against Democratic Rep. Susie Lee in 2020, was identified as a suspect in the case that unfolded on October 29, 2023.
During the court appearance, Rodimer’s attorney, David Chesnoff, filed a motion to suppress evidence obtained from a wiretap, citing “marital privileges.” Chesnoff also mentioned that he had requested information about Tapp’s past prison sentence and history of violence. State prosecutors argued that such requests were premature at this stage of the proceedings.
On the night of the incident, emergency medical services responded to a call regarding Tapp, who had sustained injuries in what was initially described as an accident. However, Tapp succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, with the Clark County coroner later ruling his death as a homicide due to blunt force trauma to the head.
Further investigation revealed that Tapp had been involved in an altercation at a resort before being discovered and taken for medical assistance. The coroner’s report indicated that Tapp had experienced an “unwitnessed fall” at Resorts World, leading to multiple brain bleeds and his eventual passing on November 5, 2023.
Rodimer is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on May 21, where more details of the case are expected to emerge. John Thomas, the attorney representing the Tapp family, expressed their determination to seek justice for Chris Tapp, emphasizing the emotional toll of the situation on his mother, Vera Tapp.
Reflecting on the tragic events that unfolded, Thomas highlighted the injustice faced by Chris, who had previously been wrongfully convicted in a 1996 rape and murder case in Idaho, serving two decades in prison before being exonerated. The family’s pursuit of justice in the wake of this new tragedy underscores the deep emotional impact of the situation on those involved..
