In a recent incident of grand theft in Woodland, California, a male and female were spotted by an officer pushing a Dewalt generator in a shopping cart near California Street and Court Street at approximately 6:00 a.m. The officer, deeming this activity suspicious, took photos of the generator and its serial number. Later in the morning, a victim reported the theft of a generator from a construction site in the 100 block of North College Street. Video surveillance confirmed that the same two individuals seen by the officer were responsible for the theft. One suspect, identified as 29-year-old Woodland resident Lauren Parkison, was apprehended and charged with grand theft and conspiracy. Parkison was subsequently booked into the Yolo County Jail. Authorities are currently working to identify and apprehend the male suspect involved in the crime.
Furthermore, officers responded to a weapons violation incident at Ralph Harris Park on March 15 at 8:45 a.m. following reports of a disturbance involving a firearm. Upon arrival, officers discovered that two males had engaged in an altercation, during which one of them brandished a knife and the other displayed a silver handgun. A witness provided a description of the suspect with the firearm, leading to the identification of 23-year-old Woodland resident Jovany Leon Brambila. Brambila attempted to flee upon seeing the officers, discarding a backpack containing a loaded silver semi-automatic handgun during a pursuit. He was subsequently apprehended and booked into the Yolo County Jail on charges of carrying a loaded concealed firearm and resisting/delaying officers.
In a tragic turn of events on March 16 at 3:46 p.m., officers responded to a fatal traffic collision in the 300 block of West Street. A two-year-old child was struck by a vehicle and succumbed to their injuries after being transported to the hospital by family members. Investigation revealed that the incident occurred when a three-year-old child inside a truck, left running at a gas pump, managed to exit their car seat and inadvertently set the vehicle in motion, leading to the collision. The owner of the truck cooperated with authorities, and a thorough investigation involving Patrol, Traffic, Crime Scene Investigation, and Detectives is ongoing.
Moreover, on the same day at 8 p.m., officers were dispatched to Churchhill Downs Avenue and Santa Anita Drive in response to a speed contest gathering involving vehicles performing donuts on the street. Approximately 30 vehicles were involved, with one driver, identified as 18-year-old Benicia resident Benjamin Sylvia, arrested for aiding and abetting a speed contest. Sylvia was released with a notice to appear in court.
In other news, the Homeless Outreach Street Team (HOST) made significant strides in their weekly efforts, making 50 contacts and offering services to 31 individuals, with four accepting assistance.
