A tragic incident in Bensalem, Pennsylvania has resulted in a Pennsylvania teen, formerly known as Joshua Cooper but now identified as Ash Cooper, being sentenced to 15 to 40 years in prison after pleading guilty to third-degree murder and other charges in connection with the death of 12-year-old Morgan Connors in November 2022.
The harrowing events unfolded when a teenager, who was chatting on Instagram with an acquaintance, sent a distressing video asking for help cleaning up and disposing of a body. The acquaintance immediately alerted the authorities, leading to a swift response from the police.
Upon arriving at a trailer park in Bensalem, officers were informed by a youth running out of the trailer that the killing was an accident. Further investigation revealed that Cooper had shown the legs and feet of the victim covered in blood during the video chat and had asked for assistance in cleaning up the scene.
Despite pleading guilty, Cooper has never disclosed the motive behind the killing. A note found in Cooper’s bedroom was presented to the judge but was not disclosed to the public. Cooper’s attorney, Paul Lang, stated in court that his client, who was 16 at the time of the crime, had a troubled upbringing and expressed genuine remorse and sorrow for the tragic events that transpired.
During the sentencing, Common Pleas Judge Jeffrey Finley acknowledged Cooper’s difficult past but expressed concerns about their troubling history of conduct and treatment of others. Despite accepting the plea agreement, Judge Finley emphasized the need for Cooper to seek redemption and rehabilitation.
In addition to the prison sentence, Cooper was also sentenced to seven years of probation for possession of an instrument of crime and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence. The victim’s grandfather and adoptive father, Allen Gold, paid tribute to Morgan as a “sweet, beautiful” individual and emphasized the lasting impact of her loss on the family.
As the community mourns the loss of Morgan Connors, the tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of violence and the importance of seeking justice for victims of such heinous crimes..
