In a shocking development, the investigation into the tragic deaths of three men whose charred remains were found inside a burnt car near Kuchhangi Lake in Tumakuru district has taken a dark turn. The police have uncovered a grim tale of a “treasure hunt” gone terribly wrong, with some of the culprits now in custody.
The victims have been identified as Ishaq Seemam M, 54, Sahul Hameed, 46, and A Siddiq Khader, 34, all residents of Dakshina Kannada district. They were lured into a treacherous scheme by a gang promising them a treasure trove of gold. Seemam was the owner of the charred vehicle, which had been loaned to him by Rafiq of Belthangady.
The victims, who had varied occupations ranging from drivers to working in a footwear shop, were enticed by the prospect of a lucrative deal by the gang members who claimed to have found a vessel filled with gold while excavating earth in Tumakuru. Over the past few months, the victims had been in regular contact with the gang, believing them to be legitimate treasure hunters and sellers.
On the fateful night, the victims were instructed to meet near the lake to finalize the sale of the supposed treasure. Trusting the perpetrators, the victims brought a substantial amount of cash with them. However, the exact sum remains unconfirmed, as per police sources.
The police are awaiting DNA reports for the definitive identification of the victims, adding a layer of complexity to the investigation. Tower location data and call records indicate that the victims’ phones were deactivated near Kora village, where their charred bodies were discovered.
Tumakuru district superintendent of police Ashok KV stressed the importance of waiting for concrete evidence to unravel the mystery behind this heinous crime. The investigation is ongoing, with the police determined to bring the perpetrators to justice and provide closure to the families of the victims..
