A man facing murder charges in the tragic shooting death of 30-year-old Mercedes Young is set to appear for arraignment on Monday in Bowie County, Texas. Rodney Jerel Lindley, a 41-year-old resident of Texarkana, Texas, will be appearing in Bowie County’s 202nd District Court.
The arrest of Lindley took place in November 2023 after the Texarkana Police Department received crucial information regarding his whereabouts within the city. Lindley was sought in connection with the murder of Young, which occurred on September 13.
Details of the Incident
The incident unfolded when authorities responded to a call reporting a disturbance and gunshots in the 3800 block of Alexander Avenue in Texarkana, Texas. The location was just south of the Liberty-Eylau Early Childhood Center. Upon arrival, officers found Young with a gunshot wound, and despite efforts, she succumbed to her injuries later that evening at the hospital.
Lindley, who fled the scene following the shooting, was swiftly identified as the primary suspect. Detectives wasted no time in obtaining a murder warrant for his arrest on the same night.
Family’s Account
Following Young’s tragic passing, her mother, Deann Gregory, revealed to the Gazette that her daughter had been at the residence babysitting a friend’s children. Gregory expressed confusion as to why Lindley was also present at the house during the incident.
