Tragic Wrong-Way Collision on I-580 Claims Life of Lafayette Resident
Authorities have identified the victim of a fatal wrong-way collision on I-580 earlier this week as Lee David Weiner, a 57-year-old resident of Lafayette. The tragic incident occurred when Weiner’s gray BMW was involved in a three-car crash with a pickup truck and a white utility van.
Details of the Collision
The collision took place in the early hours of Tuesday, with Weiner heading westbound on I-580. The suspect vehicle, a white pickup truck, was being pursued by law enforcement at the time of the crash. The impact of the collision was severe, resulting in Weiner being pronounced dead at the scene by officials from the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office.
The two occupants of the pickup truck, identified as Patrick Sheckells from Oakland and Andre Alberty from San Francisco, sustained major injuries in the crash. It is believed that the two men were involved in a commercial burglary at Tobacco Outlet in El Cerrito prior to the collision.

Aside from Weiner and the suspects, the occupant of the white utility van involved in the crash also suffered major injuries, as reported by the California Highway Patrol. The identities of the individuals in the van have not been disclosed at this time.
