San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department detectives are currently probing the unfortunate demise of a Rancho Cucamonga resident who was taken into custody following an alleged altercation with a deputy, as per reports from authorities.
The distressing incident unfolded in the early hours of Tuesday, when deputies were dispatched to the 10100 block of Foothill Boulevard in Rancho Cucamonga in response to reports of a man exhibiting suspicious behaviour by attempting to gain access to vehicles and apartment entrances. Upon arrival at the scene, deputies encountered a man later identified as Mohd Hijaz, aged 32, situated amidst a bush and emitting incomprehensible vocalizations.
In a bid to ensure Hijaz’s well-being, deputies maintained a safe distance while summoning medical assistance to the location. However, the situation took a turn for the worse when Hijaz began approaching the deputies in defiance of their instructions to halt. In the ensuing commotion, Hijaz purportedly struck one of the officers in the facial region, prompting the use of physical force to subdue him.
Tragically, Hijaz experienced a sudden and unspecified “medical emergency” during the altercation, with the precise timing of this incident remaining undisclosed by the Sheriff’s Department. Following the arrival of emergency response personnel from the Rancho Cucamonga Fire Department and American Medical Response, Hijaz was swiftly transported to a nearby medical facility, where he was subsequently declared deceased.
In light of the circumstances surrounding Hijaz’s passing, the coroner’s office has initiated an autopsy procedure to ascertain the exact cause of death. Despite the ongoing investigation, the Sheriff’s Department has refrained from offering additional commentary on the matter at this juncture.
Authorities have refrained from divulging any information pertaining to Hijaz’s potential involvement in criminal activities prior to the purported altercation with the deputy. Moreover, details regarding the number of deputies present at the scene and the scrutiny surrounding the employment of force during Hijaz’s detainment have not been disclosed by law enforcement officials.
The incident location, Rancho Cucamonga, is a city situated in San Bernardino County, California, known for its residential neighborhoods and scenic landscapes. With a population of approximately 177,000 residents, Rancho Cucamonga boasts a diverse community and is recognized for its recreational amenities and cultural attractions..
