Columbia, Missouri – The Columbia Police Department is actively seeking information and suspects following a series of shots fired incidents and a fatal shooting that occurred on Wednesday. The Boone County Sheriff’s Office also responded to a shots fired call outside of the Columbia Police Department’s jurisdiction on the same night.
This recent shooting incident marks the second fatal shooting in Columbia this week, with the first one taking place outside the Walmart on Conley Road earlier in the week. Following the first shooting, one man was arrested and charged with murder.
In addition to the fatal shootings, there was also a shots fired incident reported at the Popeyes on Business Loop 70 West on Tuesday night. The incident resulted in property damage to the restaurant and a vehicle, however, no arrests have been made in connection to this incident.
Meanwhile, an independent investigation conducted by a regional law firm, Lewis Rice, found no evidence of bullying against former Lincoln University administrator Antoinette “Bonnie” Candia-Bailey before her tragic suicide. The investigation was initiated following Candia-Bailey’s death by suicide on January 8th, where she accused the university’s president of bullying and harassment in a letter addressed to LU President John Moseley, alumni, and faculty.
Moving on to another incident, the Columbia Police Department has identified a body found in the median of Interstate 70 as Ezekiel Rachow, a 30-year-old resident of Columbia. The police revealed that Rachow died after apparently being struck by a sedan. Authorities have notified Rachow’s next of kin about the tragic incident.
Tragically, a bicyclist was killed in a crash at the intersection of U.S. Highway 63 and Route B on Wednesday afternoon. The victim, identified as Jimmy Dye, 64, from Columbia, was struck by a trailer being pulled by a 2019 GMC truck. The truck was traveling north on Highway 63 and collided with Dye as it exited onto northbound Route B.
Lastly, the Salvation Army in Columbia has launched a new learning center aimed at providing support to individuals seeking employment opportunities and personal development. The center offers various classes covering topics such as personal budgeting and office proficiency to help individuals enhance their job prospects and life skills. The center, located at 1108 W. Ash Street, operates on weekdays with classes held at different times throughout the week..
