A tragic incident unfolded in Jamestown as the local police department responded to a shooting at a residence on Prendergast Ave. The victim, identified as Trevon D. Tripp, a 26-year-old Dunkirk resident, was found deceased at the scene. Two other individuals sustained serious injuries during what authorities believe to be an isolated incident.
The Jamestown Police Department issued a news release urging anyone with information about the shooting to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation. Those willing to provide information can reach out to the Jamestown Police Department Tip Line at 716-483-TIPS (8477).
In the wake of Tripp’s untimely death, his aunt, Ashley Curtis, set up a GoFundMe account to help cover funeral and memorial expenses. Describing Tripp as someone with a “heart of gold” who always lent a helping hand, Curtis highlighted the financial strain on the family, particularly on Tripp’s mother, who recently underwent major brain surgery and is unable to work. The funds raised will also support Tripp’s two young children.
The shooting incident prompted a swift response from various emergency services, including the Chautauqua County Emergency Management Services, Chautauqua County District Attorney Jason Schmidt, and the Jamestown Fire Department. This collaborative effort underlines the gravity of the situation and the need for a thorough investigation to ensure justice for the victims.
Notably, this is not the first time such violence has occurred in the area. In August 2022, another fatal shooting took place on the same 800 block of Prendergast Ave., raising concerns about the safety and security of the neighbourhood.
As the community grapples with this senseless tragedy, there is a collective call for unity and support for the affected families. The ripple effects of such incidents extend beyond the immediate victims, impacting the entire community and highlighting the need for proactive measures to prevent future violence.
