Two Shin Bet officers have been injured in a shooting attack near the Gush Etzion Junction, as reported by the Shin Bet on Tuesday afternoon. The incident left one victim in serious but stable condition, while the other sustained light injuries, according to the Shaare Zedek Medical Center.
The perpetrator of the attack, identified as 30-year-old Ziad Khomeran from Jenin, was shot on the spot by security forces. The two Shin Bet officers were on duty in the area when they were ambushed by Khomeran.
Yaron Rosenthal, the head of the Gush Etzion Regional Council, expressed his wishes for a speedy recovery to the wounded officers. He emphasized the ongoing struggle against terrorism, stating, “The campaign we are in is a campaign of the Zionist movement against the Arab enemy that is being waged in all parts of the country. We have been in Gush Etzion, a front-line post of the State of Israel, for nearly a century. Our grip on this good mountain will continue to deepen. This is our true answer to murderous terrorism.”
The Gush Etzion Junction, where the attack took place, holds significant historical and strategic importance in the West Bank. It has been a focal point of Israeli-Palestinian tensions and conflict for many years.
In a related development, the IDF, Shin Bet, and Border Police conducted operations throughout the West Bank overnight, resulting in the arrest of nine wanted individuals in various locations including Nablus, Hebron, Azzun, Al-Masara, and the Binyamin region. Israeli forces also discovered and neutralized explosive devices in the Balata Refugee Camp in Nablus, intended to harm security personnel.
Since the outbreak of hostilities, security forces have apprehended approximately 3,500 suspects across the West Bank, with over 1,500 individuals linked to Hamas. These arrests are part of ongoing efforts to maintain security and combat terrorist activities in the region..
