Five individuals have been formally accused of the fatal stabbing of a man at a bar in northeast New Jersey that took place last month. While four of the suspects have been apprehended, one remains at large, as revealed by authorities on Tuesday.
The tragic incident unfolded in Garfield during the early hours of February 4. Police officers responded to reports of a potential stabbing at JoJo’s Bar & Grill, where they discovered a male victim with severe stab wounds to his chest. The victim was later identified as 31-year-old Richard Franceschi from Hawthorne, N.J., who was rushed to a nearby hospital but sadly succumbed to his injuries at 1:29 a.m., according to Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella.
Following an extensive investigation, it was determined that five men were responsible for physically assaulting and repeatedly stabbing Franceschi with a knife. Subsequently, four of the suspects have been taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder alongside other offenses.
One of the suspects, Ricky “Angel” Vargas from East Stroudsburg, Pa., is still on the run and considered armed and dangerous. Law enforcement authorities are seeking the public’s assistance in locating him to bring him to justice.
The individuals who have already been arrested in connection with the stabbing are Jayson Rivera, Bryant Sanchez, Erony Sanchez, and Dante Moore. Moore and Erony Sanchez were apprehended in Passaic on February 24, while Bryant Sanchez was captured in Ogdensburg on the same day. All three have been charged with first-degree murder and other related crimes, and are presently detained at Bergen County Jail.
Rivera, who was said to be in possession of a firearm during the February 4 incident, was arrested in Garfield on March 12. He faces charges of first-degree murder, as well as second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm, and is awaiting a detention hearing.
