In a tragic turn of events, a man has been apprehended in connection with the fatal hit-and-run incident that claimed the life of a jogger in New River last month. The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office disclosed that 21-year-old Jacob Moore was arrested on Monday in relation to the incident that shook the community.
The dreadful incident took place on a fateful Saturday morning on February 24th, when 43-year-old Lisa Mancuso was out for a peaceful jog along the shoulder in the vicinity of 7th Avenue and Cloud Road in New River. The tranquility of the moment was shattered when she was struck by a callous hit-and-run driver operating a pickup truck, who callously fled the scene, leaving Mancuso to perish on the roadside.
Following the collision, the suspected driver briefly returned to the scene only to quickly make a U-turn and flee when confronted by witnesses. The sheriff’s office swiftly released a surveillance image of the suspect’s vehicle in a bid to track down the perpetrator. Despite the initial escape, diligent investigative efforts led to the identification of Jacob Moore as the prime suspect, culminating in the issuance of a warrant for his arrest.
In a commendable display of accountability, Moore voluntarily surrendered to the authorities at MCSO’s Vehicular Crimes Unit at approximately 4 p.m. on Monday. He now faces charges of manslaughter and failure to stop at the scene of an accident, marking a crucial step towards justice for the grieving Mancuso family.
Sheriff Russ Skinner expressed his appreciation for the relentless efforts of the Vehicular Crimes Detectives in tirelessly pursuing justice for the bereaved family. He acknowledged the emotional toll of the situation on all parties involved while reaffirming MCSO’s commitment to upholding traffic safety through educational programs and enforcement services across Maricopa County.
Recent revelations have shed light on the fact that the truck involved in the tragic incident was registered to a law enforcement officer. Sources close to the investigation have indicated that the vehicle was linked to a Phoenix police officer, with a family member allegedly behind the wheel at the time of the collision.
In a heart-wrenching reflection on the impact of the loss, Timm Mancuso, Lisa’s brother-in-law, shared poignant sentiments about her unwavering dedication to her family. He described her as a ‘mama bear’ who fiercely loved her son and husband, leaving a significant void in their lives. A GoFundMe campaign has been initiated to offer support to the grieving family during this challenging period.
As the community mourns the loss of a beloved member, the arrest of Jacob Moore serves as a pivotal moment in the quest for justice and closure in the aftermath of this devastating hit-and-run tragedy..
