A harrowing incident unfolded in Trenton, New Jersey, on Saturday, March 16, when a suspect, identified as Andre Gordon, unleashed a trail of violence that left three family members dead. The suspect, believed to be homeless, embarked on a crime spree that spanned two states, triggering a massive manhunt and setting off shelter-in-place orders.
The day began with Gordon carjacking a vehicle in Trenton before travelling approximately 40 miles to Levittown, a suburb of Philadelphia. Once there, he allegedly shot and killed his 52-year-old stepmother and 13-year-old sister. Three other individuals in the house managed to hide as Gordon searched for them, according to Bucks County district attorney Jennifer Schorn.
Gordon then proceeded to another residence, where he broke in and fatally shot a 25-year-old woman, said to be the mother of his two children. He also assaulted her mother with the butt of his rifle, causing serious injuries. Subsequently, he carjacked a Honda vehicle from a 44-year-old man at a nearby discount store before fleeing the scene.
The suspect then returned to Trenton, where he barricaded himself in a three-story house, armed with an AR-15 style assault rifle. Law enforcement officials, including SWAT teams and federal authorities such as the FBI and ATF, worked tirelessly to apprehend Gordon, who was described as “extremely dangerous.”
After several hours of negotiation and appeals for surrender, Gordon was eventually located at another location in Trenton, where he was taken into custody without incident. Trenton Police Director Steve Wilson confirmed that the suspect was unhurt and walking in the street when he was apprehended. Fortunately, individuals inside the house where Gordon was believed to be barricaded were safely evacuated with no injuries reported.
The swift and coordinated response from law enforcement agencies at the local, county, state, and federal levels played a crucial role in bringing this dangerous situation to a peaceful resolution. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for effective intervention and prevention strategies to address such acts of violence in our communities..
