Shahjahanpur, a city in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, was the scene of a tragic incident that resulted in the death of a 45-year-old man named Tariq Ali. Ali succumbed to his injuries at Lucknow’s KGMC Medical College after setting himself on fire outside the superintendent of police’s office. The incident took place due to alleged instigation by six-seven individuals, pushing Ali to take drastic action over a dispute with his former business partner Umesh Tiwari regarding the sale of two goods vehicles.
Tragic Turn of Events
On March 5, following instructions from the accused individuals, Ali doused himself in an inflammable substance and lit himself on fire in a desperate attempt to seek police intervention in his dispute. The accused allegedly promised Ali that creating a commotion in front of the police station would result in the return of his vehicle and relieve him from returning Tiwari’s money. As the police tried to extinguish the flames with blankets, the accused individuals callously filmed the incident, with one video circulating on social media platforms.
Legal Action Taken
Superintendent of Police Ashok Kumar Meena confirmed that a case had been registered against the seven accused individuals at the Sadar Bazar police station. Additionally, three of the accused, identified as Salman, KK Dixit, and Yogendra Yadav, were apprehended, while the remaining suspects are currently at large. Investigations into the matter are ongoing to bring all responsible parties to justice.
Official Statements
Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Sanjay Kumar informed PTI that Ali suffered severe burn injuries and was initially taken to a Government Medical College before being transferred to KGMC Medical College in Lucknow. Ali’s post-mortem examination is currently underway in Lucknow. Kumar also revealed that the dispute between Ali and Tiwari was already under legal scrutiny and being investigated by the police on court orders.
The tragic incident in Shahjahanpur serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of instigation and manipulation in legal disputes, ultimately leading to a loss of life.
