Manhunt in Quay County, New Mexico for Suspect Accused of Killing Police Officer
Authorities in Quay County, New Mexico, are currently conducting a large-scale manhunt for 32-year-old Jaremy Smith, a man accused of the heinous crime of killing a New Mexico State police officer. Smith, who hails from Marion, South Carolina, is facing a slew of serious charges, including First Degree Murder, Armed Robbery, and Felon in Possession of a Firearm, among others.
The tragic incident unfolded in the early hours of Friday morning when Smith encountered officer Justin Hare on Interstate 40 near Tucumcari. Officer Hare, responding to Smith’s flat tire, was met with a violent and deadly attack when Smith allegedly shot him multiple times before fleeing the scene in the officer’s patrol car.
Officer Hare was later found gravely injured on the frontage road of I-40 near mile marker 312 and was rushed to the hospital, where he tragically succumbed to his injuries. The abandoned patrol car was recovered, revealing a grim connection to a missing South Carolina woman.
Connection to Missing South Carolina Woman
During the course of the investigation, authorities discovered that the BMW driven by Smith belonged to 52-year-old Phonesia Machado-Fore, a South Carolina paramedic who was reported missing. Tragically, Machado-Fore’s lifeless body was found late Friday night, linking Smith to yet another disturbing crime.
