A Grygla resident found himself in hot water over the weekend after an intense encounter with law enforcement in Beltrami County. The individual in question, identified as Jason Moe, aged 52, was taken into custody on multiple charges following a high-speed chase that culminated in a dramatic collision with a squad car, as per an official statement from the Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident unfolded when a Beltrami County deputy and a Blackduck officer were on patrol in the town of Blackduck. Their attention was drawn to a vehicle that appeared to be behaving erratically at an intersection. Despite the absence of oncoming traffic, the vehicle came to a halt and then resumed its course without completing a turn as indicated by its signal.
Law enforcement attempted to initiate a traffic stop, prompting the vehicle, later identified as being driven by Moe, to flee the scene, heading south on Highway 71 at speeds exceeding 100 mph before veering east onto Hines Road. In a bid to impede Moe’s escape, a Minnesota State Trooper and a deputy deployed tire deflation devices, causing the suspect to continue driving for approximately eight miles post-impact.
The situation took a dangerous turn when Moe allegedly attempted to collide head-on with a Bemidji squad car at the intersection of Farley Drive and Highway 71. Despite the officer’s adept maneuvering to avert a direct impact, the squad car sustained damage on its driver’s side rear as a result of the collision with Moe’s vehicle.
Following the crash, Moe steered his vehicle off the road into a ditch, bringing the pursuit to an end. Subsequently, he was transported to a medical facility for evaluation and clearance before being taken into custody by law enforcement. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in connection with the incident.
The location of the incident, Blackduck in Beltrami County, serves as a backdrop for this high-speed chase and subsequent arrest. The events that transpired underscore the dedication and swift actions of law enforcement officers in maintaining public safety amidst challenging circumstances..
