A suspect has been apprehended following the tragic shooting death of a San Diego man in the East Village area last month. The suspect, identified as Tashaughn Jackson, aged 44, was taken into custody on Thursday morning during a routine traffic stop on westbound Interstate 8 near the Main St. exit in El Cajon. Lieutenant Daniel Meyer of the San Diego Police Department confirmed Jackson’s arrest and stated that he has been booked into county jail on suspicion of murder.
The incident took place on February 18 at approximately 3:05 p.m. when officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 600 block of 16th St. Upon arrival, they found the victim, 43-year-old Ali Jabbar, lying on the sidewalk in front of an apartment building with multiple gunshot wounds. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, Jabbar succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
Investigations revealed that Jabbar was walking with a group of individuals in the area when the suspect approached them and fired multiple shots at him. Lieutenant Meyer stated that it appears the suspect specifically targeted Jabbar and not the others in his vicinity. Following the shooting, the suspect managed to flee the scene and drove away in a northerly direction before heading eastbound towards state Route 94.
Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation. They can contact the Homicide Unit at 619-531-2293 or provide anonymous tips to Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
The tragic event has left the community in shock and mourning as they come to terms with the loss of Ali Jabbar. The East Village neighbourhood where the shooting took place is known for its vibrant community and diverse population, making this incident even more distressing for residents and local businesses.
As the investigation continues and the legal process unfolds, the hope is that justice will be served for Ali Jabbar and his loved ones. The arrest of the suspect is a significant step towards bringing closure to this senseless act of violence that has shaken the East Village community to its core..
