Redkey Man Faces Meth Dealing Charges in Jay County
A resident of rural Redkey, Jacob Schwartz, has found himself in legal trouble after being charged with dealing methamphetamine. The charges, classified as a Level 2 felony, could result in a lengthy prison sentence of up to 30 years. This legal action was recently initiated in Jay Circuit Court against the 50-year-old individual.
Arrest and Discovery of Meth
The incident unfolded on March 6 when Jay County sheriff’s deputies executed a search warrant at Schwartz’s residence in the 10800 block of West Jay County Road 800 South. During the search, law enforcement officers discovered a significant quantity of methamphetamine, totaling 16.7 grams. The illicit substance was found in a workshop situated in a barn on Schwartz’s property, as well as in his van. Additionally, drug paraphernalia, such as modified drinking straws used as snorting devices and digital scales, were recovered from the premises.
Additional Charges and Legal Proceedings
Further complicating Schwartz’s situation, he was also charged with maintaining a common nuisance, which is considered a Level 6 felony carrying a maximum sentence of 30 months. Despite the serious nature of the charges, Schwartz was able to secure his release from the Jay County jail after posting bond.
Previous Criminal History
Court documents reveal that Jacob Schwartz has a history of criminal convictions, including possession of methamphetamine, driving under the influence, and home improvement fraud. These past legal entanglements may have contributed to the severity of the charges currently leveled against him.
Alleged Meth Supplier Also Faces Criminal Charges
In a related development, another individual from rural Portland, identified as Blake William Price, has also been implicated in drug-related offenses. Price, aged 33, is facing charges in Jay Circuit Court for dealing in meth, dealing in a narcotic drug, possession of meth, and unlawful possession of a syringe.
Arrest and Seizure of Contraband
Price’s legal troubles began on the same day as Schwartz’s arrest, following a traffic violation in southwestern Jay County. A sheriff’s deputy conducted a traffic stop on Price’s pickup truck after it ran a stop sign, leading to the discovery of methamphetamine, fentanyl, and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle.
Past Convictions and Legal Ramifications
Similar to Schwartz, Blake William Price has a criminal record that includes convictions for possession of meth, possession of a narcotic drug, and unlawful possession of a syringe. These prior offenses could potentially influence the outcome of the pending legal proceedings against him.
