A Boston man is currently facing charges after allegedly holding a date he met on the Grindr app against his will in exchange for payment. The incident took place at the man’s apartment in the area of Neponset Avenue in Boston.
Anthony Brimage, 28, was arraigned in Boston Municipal Court on charges of kidnapping and unarmed robbery. According to Suffolk District Attorney Kevin Hayden, Brimage invited a man he met online to his apartment for a sexual encounter. However, things took a dark turn when Brimage allegedly prevented the victim from leaving until he paid $100.
Police responded to a call for an unarmed robbery and found the victim, who explained that he had met Brimage on the Grindr app and had agreed to meet at his apartment. The victim claimed that Brimage demanded money for sex and when he refused, Brimage cornered him and demanded $50 via Apple Pay. Out of fear, the victim sent the money and begged Brimage to let him leave.
Brimage allegedly called his roommate into the bedroom and demanded an additional $50 from the victim. The victim, feeling trapped, sent the money as well. Brimage claimed that the victim had willingly sent him money for weed and lunch, but prosecutors revealed that Brimage had a warrant for his arrest for shoplifting in Holyoke.
Hayden warned the public about the dangers of using dating apps and meeting strangers in non-public settings. He emphasized the importance of caution, especially when meeting someone for the first time. Brimage is scheduled to appear in court on April 5 to face the charges against him.
This disturbing incident serves as a reminder of the potential risks associated with online dating and meeting strangers. It highlights the importance of staying vigilant and exercising caution when interacting with individuals met through dating apps. Authorities urge anyone using such platforms to prioritize their safety and take necessary precautions to avoid falling victim to similar situations..
