A devastating plane crash at Virginia’s Ingalls Field Airport in Bath County has left five people, including a child, dead, according to state police.
The victims have been identified as the pilot, copilot, two adults, and one child. Authorities believe all five individuals were aboard the Westwind Twin Astra Jet when it tragically crashed on Sunday in the Hot Springs area of Bath County.
Details of the Incident
Jeff Ford, chairman of the Airport Authority, confirmed that the plane did not belong to Bath County. Reports indicate that the flight originated from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and was not scheduled to land at Ingalls Field Airport. It is believed that the pilot attempted to make an emergency landing around 3 p.m. but fell short of the runway, ultimately colliding with several trees before crashing into a nearby hillside, sparking a brush fire.
Emergency responders, including Hot Springs Fire and Rescue, Falling Spring Fire Department, and Clifton Forge Fire and Rescue, quickly extinguished the fire following the crash.
Road Closures and Investigation
As a result of the crash, all north and south roads on Route 703 near Airport Road have been closed until further notice. Authorities are urging the public to avoid the area to allow for investigation and cleanup efforts.
The investigation into the tragic incident is currently underway, with state police, the Bath County Sheriff’s Office, the Federal Aviation Administration, and the National Transportation Safety Board working together to determine the cause of the crash.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of the victims during this difficult time.
