A dramatic escape by a prisoner from a transport van triggered a massive manhunt involving various law enforcement agencies in Waltham, Massachusetts. The incident unfolded around 6 p.m. when the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department alerted State Police that one of their detainees had managed to break free from a transport vehicle while stuck in traffic on Route 95 southbound near Exit 41 in Waltham, as per a spokesperson from the MSP.
Following an intense search effort, authorities successfully apprehended the fugitive after 7 p.m. in the vicinity of Second Ave. and Bear Hill Rd. The escapee was later identified as Victor De Moura-Pereira, a 20-year-old resident of Framingham.
Eyewitnesses, including Sam, who had just finished his shift at the MSPCA Veterinary Hospital in Waltham, recounted their encounters with the fugitive. Sam described how he noticed the prisoner, still in restraints, attempting to seek assistance. Despite the detainee’s pleas, Sam wisely refrained from aiding him and discreetly alerted emergency services.
According to reports, Moura-Pereira had been taken into custody by Framingham Police the day before for multiple charges of assault and battery on a law enforcement officer. Subsequently, he was transferred into the custody of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement due to an active detainer on him by the agency, state police revealed.
The swift resolution of this high-stakes situation highlights the collaborative efforts of the involved authorities in swiftly bringing the fugitive back into custody. As this remains a developing story, stay tuned for further updates as additional information surfaces.
