Gurgaon: A 35-year-old man from Nepal was arrested on Monday for allegedly killing his wife at their rented house in Sector 53.
Tapraj Joshi, a cook by profession at a paying guest accommodation in Gurgaon, was accused of trying to mislead investigators by claiming that his wife died of ill health. However, a postmortem examination revealed that she was throttled to death.
Joshi, a native of Nepal who has been working in Gurgaon as a cook for several years, was provided accommodation in a room at his workplace in Sarswati Kunj. He married Shanti Bugti, also from Nepal, in 2023 and brought her to Gurgaon a month before the tragic incident.
The police were informed of Bugti’s death on Feb 24 morning by the civil hospital staff in Gurgaon. Joshi had taken his wife to the hospital during the night of February 23 and 24, claiming she had suddenly fallen ill. However, Bugti’s family did not believe Joshi’s story, prompting the police to visit their accommodation. By then, Joshi had already cleaned up the place.
After Bugti’s postmortem on Feb 25 revealed that she was choked to death, Joshi was taken into custody. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime, stating that he had committed the offence during an argument with Shanti about a personal issue. A murder case was registered against him, and he was produced before the court on Monday and sent on judicial remand.
