Police Response and Investigation
Authorities were alerted to the situation around 9:43 p.m. on Saturday after receiving a distress call about a man with a gun at the residence. The caller reported that the man, later identified as 43-year-old Nicholas Hegwein, was intoxicated and holding hostages at gunpoint.

The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office confirmed the identities of the deceased as 43-year-old Tracy McEvoy and her son, William Allen McEvoy. Both were residents of Goose Creek and tragically lost their lives in the violent incident.
