MIDLAND, MI — The Midland Area Farmers Market will return to Dow Diamond for the 2022 season on Saturday, May 7.

The market was previously located near the Tridge and relocated in May 2020 to the Dow Diamond East parking lot in response to historic flooding that left part of Midland and the surrounding area under water. Although the floodwaters have long since receded, farmers market officials have decided to return to Dow Diamond for the upcoming market season because of the ongoing pandemic.

“The location allows vendors and customers to spread out much more — enabling easier physical distancing and convenient parking,” according to a Midland Area Farmers Market news release.

Loons President and General Manager Chris Mundhenk said the Loons and MBF “welcome the opportunity for Dow Diamond to serve as the location for the Midland Area Farmers Market in 2022.”

“We fully support the MBA’s mission and commitment to the growth of the Farmers Market, and look forward to seeing thousands of people visiting the farmers market next year at Dow Diamond,” Mundhenk said in a statement.

Midland Area Farmers Market Manager Emily Lyons added in a statement, “We can’t thank the Great Lakes Loons enough for their partnership to house the Midland Area Farmers Market at Dow Diamond. They stepped in during our time of need to help us keep the market open for our community not only through a pandemic lockdown but also tragic flooding.”

From May 7 through Oct. 29, the market will be open from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesdays and Saturdays and from 9 a.m. to noon the first three Saturdays in November.

Vendor applications will be available on the MBA’s website in early February.
