The Dow Is Steady as Earnings Roll In

7:40 a.m. The
Dow Jones Industrial Average
appears set to open flat, as investors wait for U.S. retail-sales figures to be released later this morning.

Dow futures have risen 7 points, or .03%, while
S&P 500
futures are up .04%, and
Nasdaq Composite
futures are up .06%.

Earnings season is in full swing.
Johnson & Johnson

(ticker: JNJ),
Goldman Sachs

(GS), and
JPMorgan Chase

(JPM) all turned in higher earnings than expected in reports out this morning. U.S. retail sales numbers are due at 8:30 a.m., East Coast time.

Watch out for earnings reports from
CSX

(CSX) and
United Airlines

(UAL) after the market closes. More reports will follow throughout the week.
